The bearing cross joint is a component that enables variable angle power transmission, used to change the position of the transmission axis direction. It is the "joint" component of the universal transmission device in the automotive drive system. The combination of bearing cross joint and transmission shaft is called universal joint transmission device. On vehicles with front engine and rear wheel drive, the universal joint transmission device is installed between the transmission output shaft and the main reducer input shaft of the drive axle.Vehicles with front engine and front wheel drive omit the transmission shaft. And bearing cross joint is installed between the front axle half shaft, which is responsible for both driving and steering, and the wheels.
The cross axis rigid universal joint is composed of universal joint fork, cross axis, needle roller bearing, oil seal, sleeve, bearing cover and other components. The working principle is that when one of the forks rotates, it drives the other fork to rotate through the cross axis. And can also swing in any direction around the center of the cross axis. During the rotation process, the needle rollers in the bearing can rotate on their own to reduce friction. The shaft connected to the input power is called the input shaft (also known as the driving shaft), and the shaft output through the bearing cross joint is called the output shaft (also known as the driven shaft). Working under the condition of an angle between the input and output shafts, the angular velocities of the two shafts are unequal.Which can cause torsional vibrations in the output shaft and its connected transmission components and affect their lifespan.
Working principle of bearing cross joint
When the active fork is in a vertical position with a linear bearing and the cross axis plane is perpendicular to the active axis. At this point, the linear velocity of the connection point between the driving fork and the cross axis and the connection point between the driven fork and the cross axis on the plane of the cross special bearing axis are equal. During the operation of a car, uneven road surfaces cause bouncing, which is due to the presence of universal joints at both ends of the transmission shaft. Therefore, in the transmission form of rear drive cars, double universal joints are used for imported bearing networks. Changes in load or the position difference between the two assemblies can cause changes in the angle and distance between the output shaft of the transmission and the input shaft of the main reducer. Its function is to make the angle between the two ends of the transmission shaft equal, thereby ensuring that the instantaneous angular bearing seat speed between the output shaft and the input shaft is always equal.
