The characteristics of four point contact ball bearing

Four point contact ball bearing is single-row angular contact ball bearings and therefore require significantly less space in an axial direction than double-row designs.

The bearings comprise solid outer rings, split inner rings and ball and cage assemblies with brass or polyamide cages. The two-piece inner rings enable a large complement of balls to be accommodated. The inner ring halves are matched to the particular bearing and must not be interchanged with those of other bearings of the same size. The outer ring with the ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately from the two inner ring halves.

The characteristics of four point contact ball bearing is as follows:

(1) A four point contact ball bearing is a separable structure, where a single bearing can replace a back or front combination of angular contact ball bearings.

(2) Four point contact ball bearing can withstand bidirectional axial and radial loads, as well as limit axial displacement in both directions, but they occupy less axial space than current specifications of double row angular contact ball bearings.

(3) Compared to other ball bearings, four point contact ball bearing have smaller axial clearance and higher limit speed when the radial clearance is the same.

(4) Four point contact ball bearing is more suitable for bearing axial and radial combined loads or pure axial loads with axial loads as the main load. Due to its double half inner (or outer) ring, it has a large load-bearing capacity with an increased number of balls loaded.

(5) Under normal working conditions, a four point contact ball bearing can form a contact angle when subjected to axial loads in any direction. The steel ball contacts the inner and outer raceways at one point each, avoiding significant sliding friction in the contact area. Therefore, four point contact ball bearings should not be subjected to radial forces as the main force and load.
