Universal bearing, also known as universal joint.Is a mechanical component used to achieve variable angle power transmission.And is used to change the position of the transmission axis direction. It is the "joint" component of the universal transmission system in the automotive drive. The combination of universal joint and transmission shaft is called universal joint transmission device. On vehicles with front engine and rear wheel drive, the universal joint transmission device is installed between the transmission output shaft and the drive axle main reducer input shaft. Vehicles with front engine and front wheel drive omit the transmission shaft.And universal joints are installed between the front axle half shaft.Which is responsible for both driving and steering, and the wheels.
The cross axis rigid universal bearing joint is composed of universal joint fork, cross axis, needle roller bearing, oil seal, sleeve, bearing cover and other components. The working principle is that when one of the forks rotates, it drives the other fork to rotate through the cross axis.And can also swing in any direction around the center of the cross axis. During the rotation process, the needle pins in the needle roller bearing can rotate on their own to reduce friction. The shaft connected to the input power is called the input shaft (also known as the driving shaft).And the shaft output through the universal joint is called the output shaft (also known as the driven shaft). Working under the condition of an angle between the input and output shafts, the angular velocities of the two shafts are unequal.Which can cause torsional vibrations in the output shaft and its connected transmission components and affect their lifespan.
The structure and function of universal bearing are somewhat similar to the joints on the limbs of the human body.Allowing the angle between the connected parts to vary within a certain range. To meet the requirements of power transmission, adaptation to steering, and angle changes caused by up and down bouncing during vehicle operation.Universal joints are commonly used to connect the half shaft and axle. However, due to the limitation of axial dimensions, a relatively large deviation angle is required. A single universal joint can't make the instantaneous angular velocity of the output shaft equal to that of the input shaft. Easy to cause vibration, exacerbate component damage, and generate significant noise.So various types of constant velocity universal joints are widely used. On front drive vehicles, each half shaft is equipped with two constant velocity universal joints. On rear drive vehicles, the engine, clutch, and transmission are installed as a whole on the frame.While the drive axle is connected to the frame through elastic suspension, with a distance between them that needs to be connected.
