Maintenance of rear wheel bearing, have you paid attention?

208 Published by admin Aug 29,2022

1. Inspection of rear wheel bearing

(1) When checking the tightness of the rear wheel bearing, first erect the axle of the wheel at one end of the wheel hub of the car to be inspected, and securely erect the car with tools such as a bench and a car cover.

(2) Rotate the inspected wheel several times by hand to see if the rotation is smooth and if there is any abnormal noise. If the rotation is not smooth and there is friction noise, it means that the braking part is abnormal; if there is no noise, the rotation is not smooth and is tight and loose, which means that the bearing part is abnormal. When the above abnormal phenomenon occurs, the wheel hub should be disassembled and inspected. For small cars, when checking the rear wheel bearing, hold the upper and lower sides of the tire with both hands, and turn the tire back and forth with both hands, repeating this process several times. If it is normal, there should be no loose and blocked feeling; if there is obvious loose feeling in the swing, the hub should be disassembled and inspected.

(3) Inspection of braking. Usually, when checking the rear wheel bearing, the wheel braking device is also checked. If there is oil stain on the inside of the tire, it is likely to be caused by oil leakage from the brake cylinder or the brake oil pipe. The cause should be found out in time and eliminated.rear wheel bearing

2. Maintenance of rear wheel bearing

Before removing the wheel hub, you should make preparations for the maintenance of the wheel hub, stop the car stably and set up the axle to ensure the safety of the maintenance operation.

(1) Remove the decorative cover and dust cover of the hub axle head;

(2) Remove the tire nuts and tires, taking care not to damage the threads of the tire bolts. In the case of disc brakes, remove the brake and use the caliper to remove the locking ring or locking pin.

(3) Remove the hub with a special tool;

(4) Scrape off the old grease in the bearing, journal and hub cavity, clean the hub bearing and journal with detergent and dry it with a cloth, and finally wipe the inner cavity of the hub with a cloth.

(5) Check the rear wheel bearing and bearing seat ring, and find cracks, fatigue spalling and loose bearing rollers, etc., the bearing should be replaced. If you find pitting on the bearing race, the bearing should also be replaced.rear wheel bearing

(6) Check the fit between the inner diameter of the bearing and the journal. The fit clearance should not be greater than 0.10mm. When measuring the journal, it should be measured at the upper and lower parts of the vertical ground (where it is the most worn part). If the fitting clearance exceeds the specified usage limit, the bearing should be replaced to restore the normal fitting clearance. It is not allowed to make burrs and pits on the journal to narrow the gap.

(7) After all parts meet the requirements, apply grease to the inner bearing and place it in the hub.

(8) When applying grease to the bearing cavity, pay attention to squeeze the grease into the bearing until the grease emerges from the other side of the bearing. Apply a thin layer of grease to the hub cavity and axle head cover to prevent rust. Be careful not to apply too much grease in the hub cavity, otherwise it will affect heat dissipation and braking.

(9) Put the hub and the outer bearing back on the journal, screw the adjusting nut on the shaft head by hand, and then use the shaft head wrench to tighten the adjusting nut according to the specified torque. After tightening the nut, turn the hub left and right a few turns to see the bearing installation; on the other hand, make the bearing and seat ring fit correctly by turning. At this time, the bearing tightness is appropriate, and the wheel rotates freely without feeling the axial clearance.

(10) Finally, install the locking piece, fixing nut, tire, dust cover and decorative cover in sequence.

(11) After the rear wheel bearing is adjusted, drive for a certain mileage (about 10km), stop for inspection, and use it to wipe the temperature of the wheel hub. If it heats up, it is due to the bearing adjustment being too tight. It should be readjusted and the bearing tightness should be loosened appropriately.
