Carbon Steel Bearings or Bearing Steel?I think many customers will encounter this question when they make decisions.Firstly,what is carbon steel bearings?To answer this question, we should know carbon steel material.As a common material, its advantages and disadvantages are also obvious.

Advantages:
1. After heat treatment, carbon steel can obtain higher hardness and better wear resistance.
2. Good machinability.
3. The raw materials of carbon steel are very common and the production cost is relatively low.

Disadvantages:
1. Poor hardenability
2. Low strength level and low yield strength ratio
3. Poor tempering stability and heat resistance
4. Although high in hardness, it is brittle and prone to rust.

In summary, because of the cheaper price, carbon steel bearings have become the choice of some customers, who may prefer cheaper ones when purchasing in large quantities. But carbon steel bearings are not as durable as bearing steel.

I met a customer in 2021 whom from Pakistan and wanted carbon steel bearings,as cheap as possible.Actually,we don't want to sell carbon steel bearings to him at the first place.Because we know this material is not very good performance,although the cost is really low.So we discussed this,for a long time,we said bearing steel is good choice,not much more expensive than carbon steel.But he insisted cheaper ones.Hence,we send him some samples to intestine quality.After several days,he got the samples.And feedback is not well,he said carbon steel bearings actually not as good as bearing steel.Noise is big,and speed is not very fast.

So he had to think about bearing steel material.Bearing steel has a high and uniform hardness and wear resistance, as well as a high elastic limit.Bearing steel is divided into four categories: fully hardened bearing steel, surface hardened bearing steel, stainless bearing steel, and high-temperature bearing steel.

In order to meet the requirements for bearing performance, bearing steel materials need to have the following basic properties:
1) High contact fatigue strength,
2) After heat treatment, it shall have a high hardness or a hardness that can meet the performance requirements of the bearing,
3) High wear resistance, low friction coefficient,
4) High elastic limit,
5) Good impact toughness and fracture toughness,
6) Good dimensional stability,
7) Good rust resistance,
8) Good cold and hot working performance.

Different types of bearing steel can meet the performance requirements of bearings in different operating environments.After introducing different materials to the customer, he decided to choose material with better performance. Although the price is a liitle higher than carbon steel, the cost performance ratio is high in the long run. Because it works smoothly and has a longer service life.
Finally, the customer decided to purchase bearings made of bearing steel materials, and we also gave the customer a good discount. After receiving the goods, the customer installed them on the equipment for testing, and the results were satisfactory to him. "We will buy back large quantities of bearings in the future," he said.
